FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does your class cost?

For Chinese students, please message me for the Pricing Table password. If you are not from China, please contact me for up-to-date class package prices as they may vary depending on the country. I offer discounts for larger packages and one free lesson for each successful referral!

What method of payment do you accept?

WeChat Pay through Stripe, Paypal, and Stripe bank transfer.

What time zone do you live and teach in?

I live in the United States of America in the Pacific Daylight Time zone (GMT-7). Currently, all of my students live in China and Singapore, so my schedule accommodates the Beijing Time Zone. However, I am willing to adjust my schedule to teach students in any time zone.

On which platform do you teach?

I use Voov (Tencent) for Chinese students – I will send you a link which can be used for each class. For other students, I can use Zoom or Voov.

Do you provide video class recordings?

Yes, I record each lesson and I can send them to you through WeChat, DingTalk (DingDing), or email by request.

Do you speak Chinese?

I speak very little Chinese. Classes are held almost entirely in English.

How can you teach Chinese kids and beginners if you don’t know Chinese?

I use a teaching method called Total Physical Response, or TPR.

TPR is simply over-exaggerated body language. Using this over-the-top body language helps to aid the student’s comprehension, similar to using sign language with a deaf person.

Between TPR, photos, and videos, my students learn vocabulary and grammar very quickly!

What languages can you speak?

Languages and linguistics are my biggest passions! American English is my native language and I have studied a variety of languages over the years. The CEFR language learning levels are A1 (beginner), A2 (pre-intermediate), B1 (intermediate), B2 (upper-intermediate), C1 (advanced), C2 (proficiency).

  • French B2: I have reached an intermediate level in French by studying on my own online and talking to language partners regularly.
  • Spanish A2: I studied Spanish in school for several years and I’m now continuing my education by teaching myself.
  • Italian A2: I studied Italian for a year and a half on my own and gained the ability to have spoken and written conversations with native speakers.
  • Chinese A1: Since most of my students are Chinese, I have learned some greetings, phrases, and words in Chinese. It can improve communication during my classes when needed, and sometimes my students like to teach me some words.

I have experience in several other languages, which I plan to study more in the future. Hopefully I will add to this section soon!

Do you give your students homework?

I sometimes give my students homework, but it depends on the student and the lesson. Most of the time, my students’ homework is to prepare for the next class with videos and lesson slides I send via WeChat or WhatsApp. Sometimes I send worksheets with matching or circling activities, and sometimes I send flashcards. If you’d like no homework or more homework, please tell me and I’d be more than happy to do that for you.
